Lately I have been thinking a lot about enjoying life day by day and not just looking forward to the big events that happen in life. I recently read an article by Elder Scott called Finding Joy in Life. It is a conference address he gave in April 1996. I highly recommend everyone to read it.
In the address Elder Scott talks about finding joy in life (as you can tell by the title) He talks about keeping problems in perspective, he compared it to holding a pebble close to the eye how it appears to be a giant obstacle, cast on the ground, it is seen in perspective. I know that I think about and focus on little problems way too much. Sometimes I feel that if I don't think about them all the time then they won't get resolved. Elder Scott says that we need to recognize that problems are events in life but they are not life itself. I know that I really don't have any major problems in my life, we all enjoy good health, we have enough to eat, we are blessed with a good family and good friends, however I put too much credence on the day to day stresses. I am focusing on enjoying every moment for what it is. Elder Scott says that kids are always happy because they are focusing on what they do have and not on what they don't have. I need to do that. My kids are always happy, Kira and Josh can be happy just playing with scraps of paper. They are such good examples to me.
Now, I don't want anyone thinking that I am not happy or that I am depressed. I am very happy but these were just my thoughts today.
