Play date

We have made it through Lou's first week of night classes. Yea! It wasn't nearly as bad as I was planning on, hopefully the rest of the semester goes as great.
Yesterday was a beautiful day I think it was in the high 40s. We walked over to our friend Alyssa's house to play. Kira and Kyah always play so well together, yesterday was no exception. They were so cute, they actually were counting together, both of them would count than laugh and continue counting, it was really fun to watch. Kira can say Kyah's name now. Kira has a hard time when the initial sound in the word is 'k' so her own name and Kyah's name are challenges but finally she says Kyah's name consistently. It was fun to hear them call each other by name. Many many times throughout the day Kira will randomly tell me that Kyah is her friend. I hope they will always be friends kind of like the Sisterhood in the traveling pants. Josh really just plays by himself on our weekly play date or sits on my lap, hopefully him and Issac will start playing together soon. Issac is only 6 months old so it might be a little while. Kira knows however that they are suppose to be friends, when I ask her if Issac is her friend she says "no, Joshy's friend". How nice is it that some of our best friends happen to have a little girl just a few months younger than Kira and a little boy not quite a year younger than Josh.
I don't know if people saw the local news on Saturday but a house near us caught fire. The house happens to be in Alyssa's ward. Alyssa the very thoughtful person that she is has one of the couples who lived at that house staying with her. On our walk home, I saw a girl carrying things from the burnt house to the house across the street. I stopped to talk to her (way outside my comfort zone btw) and asked her how things were going, how she felt about the fire etc. It was nice to talk to her even though I had never met her before, it was nice that I knew she was staying at Alyssa's as soon as I mentioned that a wall came down and it was like we were talking as old friends. Luckily both of the families that were living in that house were renting so they don't have to worry about the cost of damages. The girl I met lived in the basement, the damage was mainly upstairs so their stuff mainly just had water damage from the firemen. They actually got a good deal they moved across the street to a much nicer bigger basement for the same rent. (The landlord came down $100... I don't know why Lou and I ever have luck like that with rent :)). I felt very lucky as I was walking home lucky that we have never had a natural disaster or accident cause damage to our homes. I felt lucky that I wasn't moving like that girl (I detest moving) I just felt lucky!

Diana, you are so sweet. I am sure glad that both us and our kids are friends. We feel very lucky too!

Glad your first week was bearable. Mya has had a harder time this week with Linc getting home later, but she is adjusting.

That is really cool that you have a friend whose kids are so close in age to yours and that they get along.

When I was dating Linc, he and his mom lived in a bottom floor condo and the fourth floor up caught fire and they had sooo much water and smoke damage. Luckily the insurance was really good, but they lived in the Holiday Inn for almost 6 months before things were repaired and even then it still had a hint of smoke smell in the air. He hates hotels...as you can imagine. Now that we own a home it is one of those fears in the back of my mind- having to deal with a natural disaster.

Isn't that just everyone's worst nightmare? You start thinking about what you would save, how you would cope, etc. I'm glad that everyone's safe, that the damage didn't seem to be too extensive, and that some good can come out of it. It still reminds me to go out and get a safe deposit box, though!
