Lou's Very MERRY Birthday!

Lou turned 28 yesterday. It was probably one of the most uneventful birthdays in the history of birthdays. I feel so bad for Louis even though he says he had a terrific day. Let me give you a quick summary of the day; woke up, got ready for church, went to church, came home and ate lunch, put the kids down for their naps, took a 3 hour nap ourselves, had dinner, watched the Office with Timm and Jessie, read, went to bed. Lou says he loved it because he hasn't taken a nap that long in ages but I know even though he would never say so that he was disappointed that no one called him. (He did receive an email from his Grandma and Grandpa Allen who are on their mission in the Philippines)

On Saturday we did have a birthday dinner with Lou's family. Leann made an Asian cuisine. It was really good (watch out PF Chang's). Leann bought pies from Marie Calenders for desert. It's kind of funny just to add to the sadness of this birthday. I told her earlier in the day that chocolate pie was his favorite but she bought German Chocolate Pie and Lou doesn't like coconut. We ended up using the pie 3 times. Once at his parents house, once with the kids on his actual birthday and then later with Timm and Jessie. (Don't mind how we all look in the pictures the kids had to be woken up for dinner and we also look sleepy because of our long nap)

I gave Lou my present to him a day early, we were watching Heroes with Timm and Jessie and I finished his quilt (he asked if he could have it as soon as I finished so he could use it while watching Heroes) so when I finished I just through it on him and said "Happy Birthday". That's the only present he got besides our date to Harry Potter and a nice card and money from his parents. I feel bad that he didn't even have a present to unwrap. I would've bought a few little things but all week Lou repeatedly told me not to buy him anything because of our car/money situation. I was really excited though to finish Lou's quilt. I bought the fabric 2 years ago when Return of the Sith came out I however didn't start it until the end of May, so I was pretty happy that I finished it so quickly. (Don't worry we don't keep it on our bed like that I just laid it out so I could get a good picture of it)
I feel bad I didn't make it better for Lou. I think it being on a Sunday and me being tired all the time didn't help. I'm glad Lou liked his day but next year I'll definitely make it more special.
a little addendum to the post Karli posted a very thoughtful post about Louis on her blog. Karli and Zac are such good friends/cousins to us.

Happy Birthday. I just assumed we would be there for it. I think this is the first year in a very long time we are not with you on your birthday!
Love ya

I don't know how I could say it so that she understands...I had a WONDERFUL birthday. As far as the coconut is concerned, I don't like it, but I don't hate it, so it was no big deal (actually the pie was very good).

It is the first time in a while I haven't seen Rich and Sharon on my birthday, and that was too bad, but we'll see them on Fri so no big deal there.

This was actually one of the best birthdays that I cold ask for...very low-key, and no big deal! Perfect!

Louis,

We love you! Sorry we didn't call, there were a few situations that came up and we were gone most of the day and away from a phone. I told Zac we should have surprised you and taken a trip and I think had we known everything that would happen that day here, we would have done it! We hope your laid back day was fun for you and that you enjoy always being a number less than Zac and pretty soon two numbers less! I told him it's been way too long since you guys talked, so it will happen soon. you know how he gets with the phone... (: Love you!

Happy Birthday Lou! I wasn't sure what your plans were - we should have stopped by! I'm pretty jealous of that sweet quilt.

By the way, Armadillo Run is pretty awesome. Thanks for making us a copy, it sucked Mark in the other night!

Don't feel bad- a handmade gift is the best kind! (look who's talking)
It shares your time, talent AND money!
He had a great day- you're a great wife and cute little family. Deal with it. :)

Lou- does calling you the next day count and then while it is ringing we get a 4 hour blackout? The power came back on at 10 p.m. permanately. But was off and then on for minutes at a time while I was talking to Diana on Google and then nadda!

Sorry, amigo, Happy Birthday!
We love that you have a star wars blanket- sweet!!!

Diana- the blanket is awesome! So what if you did keep it on your bed that way? I think that Matt would love to have a blanket that was about him and not our "Pretty" blankets!

Sometime the best days are the one that are not filled to full. I know that when we have low keyed days matt loves them because it is spending time with his family that he cares about most, not the store bought presents, the crowds of friends or even the cake, but the fact that his loved ones are around- which to me seems a lot like lou too! I think that you gave him a great present and a great day! (we can't always have field days!)

I love you sis,
Sandi

Happy Birthday to Lou!

I always end up feeling terrible about Jeremy's birthday by the end of the day. I'm not that big into birthdays, and I suspect that he is, but would never tell me. (Sad that I only suspect--we've been married 8 years!!) I'm sure he enjoyed his birthday just as he said. Go easy on yourself this year, and keep that promise to yourself next year that you'll do better!
