The first photo is a picture of Kira with her drawing of Arthur. Isn't that such a good picture of Arthur? Kira loves to draw and lately she has become better and better. The 2nd photo of Kira is how I found her when I went upstairs to put the kids down for their naps If you can't tell she has my socks on her hands, 3 purses and is pushing her stroller :) Kira is always so creative and imaginative with her play.
Now Joshy. Today we had the speech pathologist come to test Josh. I have been kind of nervous about this. Although in my heart I knew that there wasn't anything wrong with him cognitively or have a disorder I still was a little bit worried. Well Joshy didn't do well on his tests because he is so so shy around new people but the woman could tell that the test results didn't indicate where he really is. The speech pathologist asked me a lot of questions about what Joshy says and what he can do and what he knows. by watching my interaction with Josh and by what I told her she is convinced that there is nothing wrong with Josh but he is just slower with speech because of his ear infections. I was pretty sure that that was what was going on but my school psychologist side of me kept on hearing early intervention in my head. So the plan is that the speech pathlogist will come once a month and train me on what to do to help Josh learn more words and such although she said from what she saw today I do a lot of it already (that made me feel good) , the other thing is that she wants him to go to a preschool twice a week. I don't know how I feel about this but I guess well try it out. I'm reluctant because some of the kids will be like Josh that are just slower to talk but others have serious disabilities and well that honestly makes me uncomfortable so I guess we'll got a few times and see what comes of it.
On the lighter side with Josh, the other day I had to take him to the doctor because he was dehydrated ( no wet diapers for over 24 hours, dry lips etc) any ways while we were waiting in the room for the doctor to come in Josh was having so much fun looking out the window telling me about all the trucks he was seeing (Josh loves to talk about trucks) when all of the sudden Josh lets out this huge fart. although it was very loud and surprised me Josh acted like nothing happened and kept on telling me about the trucks. I thought wow that kid is all boy!

I'm glad the SLP thinks that Josh is just speech delayed and nothing else. You're right to follow your school psych instinct just to make sure. Even though you're worried about sending him to preschool, he'll do great! At least the preschool at my school is amazing! Keep us posted on how the therapy goes!
That is great that you are so proactive about Josh's situation and are checking things out now. I know there are some parents who like to shut their eyes and pretend nothing is going on when clearly their child has some challenges. I think this only makes it worse. It sounds like Josh is doing well but just needs a little guidance since his infections are making talking/hearing difficult. That's good news but I am really impressed that you were smart enough, brave enough, and loved him enough to have him assessed. Glad to hear nothing serious is going on!
So, is this a preschool that is run by the SLP? Do parents stay there for the classes? Even though you (and no doubt Josh) might be uncomfortable in such an environment, exposure to people with disabilities is a really good thing-- as long as Josh is getting the help he needs too!
So great that Josh is going to get the help he needs- and it sounds early and well timed, so good for you for following your instincts! I hope he thrives in that preschool- it sounds like just the right thing.
McKay just got discharged from Speech Therapy this past February too. He was pretty delayed but is catching up now. I think the preschool sounds like a good idea. It will give you a break too! I am putting McKay in preschool starting next fall.
