My gratitude idea came to me this morning when we were practicing a musical number at the church. I am participating in a quartet for our Ward Christmas program. We are singing the same number we did two years ago. What Child is This by Sally De Ford. Two of the girls have moved (Jessie and Kim) but since we had 3 altos last time we decided we just needed 2 altos so we're the same and then we got a new soprano to join us. It was so peaceful practicing. The arrangement is beautiful and brought the spirit to us.
While we were discussing how we wanted to work the phrasing and such it reminded me of my days in Madrigals. I loved Madrigals my Senior year. It was the elite choir at our HS. there were only 24 members. Dr Lee was a supurb teacher. I miss Madrigals this time of year when we were our busiest putting on Christmas performances.
Music has always been a big part of my life. I started taking the piano when I was 7 years old. I loved it, I never had to be coaxed into practicing. I had 3 piano teachers growing up. Dorthy Puh, Janis Simper and Dr. Lee. Janis was my teacher the longest from 5th grade until 10th grade (she sadly sad she had nothing else she could teach me). Dr Lee taught me a lot in the 3 years that he was my teacher. He received a doctorate in music and was planning on being a concert pianist until he had a car accident and broke his hand ( I think) so needless to say he was very knowledgeable and talented.
I love the piano, I love that I can relax and really have it be a catharsis for me. I love that I have been able to serve in the church and on my mission in particular because of the talent I have playing the piano. I do recognize that it is a gift from my Heavenly Father. I know he gave it for me to enjoy but also to serve others.
I think because I always loved playing the piano and singing ( Sharon and I besides being in choirs in HS were in a singing/dancing group for 4 or so years when we were young) I have always loved a great variety of music. My Dad in particular exposed us to large variety of music when we were young, Sharon did when I was a teenager and young adult and now Louis. I always discover different groups through other people.
Anyways I am so grateful for the role music has played in my life. I hope I can continue to transfer my love and talent for music to my little ones. Kira and JOsh both love to sing and play the piano and of course play Rock Band!

It's crazy that I've never heard you sing or play the piano! I'll have to make that a priority next time we're together. I took lessons for eight years and can barely play a hymn, so good for you for not hiding your light under a bushel! I do love to sing though and try to participate in as much of that as I can. Music is the most powerful thing for me. love you!
I love music, too, and I wish that I had continued to play the piano. I miss it a lot and you're right: playing is a catharsis.
Great post.
I always think of madrigals during the Christmas time too. That was so much fun! You were a great accompanyer. (spelling???)
