Sewing with Claire

I have an aunt and uncle who live up near the Provo Temple. In my years at BYU and marriage I have seen them a handful of times prior to the last couple of weeks. For the last 2 weeks I've been going to my Aunt Claire's house to learn how to sew and quilt. I love sewing but I don't have that much experience and Claire is a professional. The kids and I will go 2-3 times a week, she has a nice playroom where the kids play and we are upstairs, working. Claire has taught me how to properly tie a quilt (on the backside of a quilt.. if it's on top it's too busy). Claire has taught me about colors, how to hem, and now we're working on my Christmas table runner. Claire has won many awards for her quilts, has written a book and is just amazing. I'm happy that we can share this together. The kids love going to, every morning Kira asks me if we are going to Claire's house. This experience reminds me of the olden days of the quilting bees and where the women in the family and town spent their days together working on projects. I just love it.

So cool that you are able to have this connection with your aunt, not to mention developing your awesome talent in the meantime!

How lucky to have your own private tutor! You're so smart to take advantage of this opportunity.

So awesome that you get to learn hands on from someone else. And that you are able/willing to take your kids with you!

Wow you are lucky to have such a knowledgeable person in the family! I have made a few quilts and I admit I really find it relaxing and fun. There are so many cute fabrics out there these days. Not just teddy bears and flowers anymore! You'll have to keep us posted on your progress.

That sounds like so much fun! It makes me want to teach my girls to sew.
