We smile and smile
We smile and smile
Laughter echoes in your eyes
We climb and climb
We climb and climb
Footfall softly in the pines
We cry and cry
We cry and cry
Sadness passes in a while
We role and role
We role and role
Help me role away the stone
My brother Michael died yesterday of an over-dose. When my Dad called to tell me I thought I was fine. My brother (really my half brother my Dad was married before he met my Mom and had 3 kids) is 16 years older than me. He was grown and out of the house for all of my life that I can remember. My Dad and Michael had a rocky relationship which lead to us not really seeing Michael all that much growing up.
Although Michael was not a daily part of my life ever he still is my brother and I mourn his loss because I love him. You don't have to see someone every day or really know a person all that well to love them. It hurts I feel more pain for my Dad and my other brother and my sister, Sandi, who were much closer to Michael than I was.
Michael was special, I will always remember him surprising everyone at a Field Family Reunion, showing up in his Navy suit. He looked so cute and I being six or seven at the time was so proud that he was my older brother. That's my most vivid memory of Michael.
The lyrics to the Crying Song by Pink Floyd is what I feel in my heart right now. I remember the good times with Michael, laughing having fun. Now we're sad but the sadness will pass and we as a family need to help roll the stone along.

Thanks for sharing that. I love that you thought of the crying song.
Sorry for your & your family's loss. I don't know much about your brothers, but I remember you talking about them a little at one point to me. Will you be going to the funeral? Let me know if I can do anything for you. Love you!
Diana! I am so sorry. I can't even imagine. I will keep you in my prayers.
What a terrible loss, Diana. I'm so sorry for you and your family.
I am thinking of you Diana. I'm sorry.
So sorry to hear of your loss.
I'm so sorry, Diana. My prayers are with you and your family.
Sorry about your loss Diana. I can see that you truely loved your brother.
Diana, I'm so so sorry. It's so hard when your life seems so shattered or permanently altered but everyone else seems to go on uninterrupted. I'll be praying for you and try to call you soon. Love you-
I am sorry for your loss, Diana. Loss is hard in any form.
i am so sorry for your lost.
I am so sorry to hear about your brother. I am at a loss for words...
Hate to sound repetitive, but I, too, am so sorry to hear of your loss. One of my sisters lives a life that could end in a similar way some day. It's like she's on a flight destined to crash land--we just don't know when for certain. It's scary to watch--and you want to help--but don't really know how, other than prayer.
My prayers are with you and your family tonight.
oh diana, i'm sorry to hear about your brother. are you doing okay? i wish you could have been there at book club when we talked about Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, we were all sharing some really deep and emotional thoughts because the book is all about loss and how we cope with it on a daily basis. let me know if you want to talk sometime - i know all too well how it feels to lose people you love.
Thinking of you D. Very sorry to hear about your brother. Let us know if we can do anything.
