Tonight I felt young and cool. My friends, Robin and Bridget took me out to dinner to celebrate my birthday. Yes my birthday was almost a month ago but with Bridget having a baby and Robin buying a house this was really the first time we could all get together. I love getting together with these girls, they're truly some of my favorite people in the world.
It was up to me to decide where to go for dinner since we were celebrating me. ( I just love celebrating me) It took me a few weeks but I finally decided on Gurus. Gurus is a really cool place on Center Street in Provo, they have great food and a really fun atmosphere.
Robin and I drove together when we arrived we were a little surprised with how crowded it was for a Thursday night. Then we saw that a band was going to play later in the night. Bridget arrived shortly after us. We ordered our food ( I got a south of Phillie Wrap, isn't just the name of it cool)
While waiting for our food, eating our food and dessert and afterward our time was spent talking. I love it because we can talk about anything and everything and we usually end up doing just that.
The band began to play when we were about halfway through our food. They had a nice sound to them. It was fun to see all the young college age girl "roadies" they had helping them with their show. Bridget and I both commented how young college students are starting to look to us. It hard to believe I was a freshman 13 years ago!
As the band was playing it reminded me of my freshman year, actually the summer between my freshman and sophomore year. I stayed in Provo and took a few classes. I was dating someone named Doug. The first boy I dated after my HS boyfriend, Aaron left on his mission a few months earlier.
That summer a bunch of us from my ward would go south of campus to a place called Mama's Cafe (I think it was named that, I can't remember its been a long time.. its where the Smart Cookie is now). On the weekends they had local bands play at Mama's. The boy I was dating (I guess he wasn't a boy he was 23 which seemed so old at the time since I was barely 19) played drums in a band, his band would play at Mama's a few times a month. I remember watching him play and thinking how cool I was to be dating a drummer. I remember seeing older people there, married couples or groups of married woman and wondering why they would want to be there, in my eyes they were too old.
Listening to the band tonight and seeing all their friends supporting them reminded me of a time in my life that I haven't really thought about in years and honestly kind of forgot about. I am happy to be the age I am and where I am at in life but it is fun to reminisce.
I thought that Bridget, Robin and I fit in with all these young college kids but they probably were looking at us like I looked at the married women I saw at Mama's Cafe when I was 19.

I remember Mama's! I don't think I ever went there, though. My favorite band spot was The Station. Wait, is that what it was called? It's where Velour is now. I was dating the drummer of a band called Anyone for Squash. Good times! Thanks for the reminder!
I'm glad you had a fun birthday celebration!
What a fun night out! Hope your birthday was happy.
