This Past Week

Lets see what has happened since I've written last. Well I guess the most impacting thing is that Lou's summer classes started last Wednesday. I am so happy that he is going to school and will be finished in less than a year, but it is hard to have him be away for such long hours. On Tuesdays and Thursday, Lou doesn't get home until after 8:00, so if anyone needs someone to talk to feel free to call because I'd appreciate the company on those days.

Less importantly more menacing, our washer isn't spinning. We called our landlord but the technicians that he wanted us to hire to fix it wouldn't be available till next week! We called our landlord back to tell him but he hasn't gotten back to us. So with laundry building up I was quite stressed. My good friend Mona (the mom of Kaeli, the little girl who I teach piano to) is letting me do my laundry at her house today. It's such a blessing because we soon would have had no clothes to wear.
Friday I had a girls night out. I don't think I had been out with so many girls since my single days, it was a lot of fun. They are the girls from my bookclub, Jessie, Rachelle, Robin, Hannah and Bridget. We went out to Applebees for dinner and then walked around Barnes and Noble. It was a blast, I love these girls. I am so glad Jessie invited me to be in her bookclub so I was able to meet and become friends with all of them.
Sunday we were invited to our friends for dinner, they made a great Mexican meal. It was so good, I felt like I was back in Cuernavaca. Stewart, our home teacher is the one that had us over. It has been nice getting to know him and his wife Natalie better. It seems like some of our closet friends have been our home teachers at some point. Louis is going to start running with Stewart. Louis wants to train for a "Scramble" it's a race that is kind of on a trail, but includes running over rocks, rivers, logs etc, really anything you would come across on a hike. It is fun to see Louis so excited about it. He loves the outdoors and he is as steady as a mountain goat on rough terrain, so I know he'll do great. The scramble is on August 18th, so Dad and Mark will be able to do it with him.
How as your past week been, anything new and exciting?

Diana, I can sympathize with you being alone so much. Dad has been traveling and Mark goes to work. Most of my friends are gone for the summer. I have lots of free time on my hands. It isn't all that much fun to not have much to do. I get lots of reading done, and I try to work out, but that isn't happening regularly.
One constructive thing I am working on is a quilting project. Our Stake RS is making 130 quilts for some elderly people here in Singapore. It has kept me busy with the organization of it. We are trying to invite nonmembers, and a few have come, but mostly we have had inavtive members participate. We will do a fun activity for the seniors when we present the quilts for them.
The scramble sounds like fun. I guess they just need to sign up for it.
Have a great week. I hope your washer gets fixed.

It sounds like you girls had a great night out together. It's so fortunate that you have each other and can get together for book club, birthdays, game nights, and other miscellaneous gatherings. Friends are so important, and it's really lucky that you guys have such a solid group at such a young age. I'm happy for you all.

My past week was exciting since I was busy surviving Girl's Camp. This week is calmer as I try to recover from the exhaustion of last week. I'm cleaning, making phone calls, and trying to reclaim my house after 5 days away from home.

Diana,
Sounds like a lot of exciting things have been happening. So fun for you to have a book club and such great girlfriends. That is one thing I somewhat lack down here and so I am so thankful you have that. Good for Louis, too. I know he wasn't too excited about the whole school thing, but he's almost done. I know about the long days. Zac is gone everyday from about 7 am to 7 or 8 pm, so I can empathize with you. And, awesome that he's doing a scramble! You'll have to tell us more about that. When do the Allens get into town and how long are they staying? We wish we were spending the fourth together again; last year was so much fun. Thinking of you always! (:

Today is the first day that I have been able to sit down to the computer and just wander around sites and see my little sister's blog. As your sister, I have been on the donwtake of all this commenting to your site! I am sorry about that. I will try to do better.
Which by the way is wonderful, you are amazing person, you have so many talents and have so much to share with others, that it makes me proud to say you are my sister!

As you go along in the next year, you will realize that one good thing about Lou being gone alot is that you gain a knowledge, that you= Diana are a worthy mother, wife and family member, you will find that your worries about "handling it all," will subside (i know from experience- many years of Matt's schooling, planning commission, city council and "flood" nights have made me an expert {maybe} at worrying about it all and finding out after years that I am as strong as I believe I am, if ONLY I believe!) You will look back on those late nights and realize that not only are you stronger and more able to "handle it all," but that you will appreciate all the hard work that Lou has done for you and your family when he is through and the work really begins! With trials, comes Joy and an added strength with dealing with that Trial. You and Lou will in the years ahead find that working hard for what you have is so much more enjoyable than if it had all been handed to you and that you will even be stronger companions because of it.

I know that You are already ahead of me in the fact that at an early age, your children are on a better schedule than mine were at the same age, you are not fighting with tired children while Lou is at school, because they are already in bed and so when Lou does come home He gets all of your attention! Lucky him! The hard part about that is that he also misses the kids when he gets home, but since it is only 2 nights a week he and (they) will adjust and be so excited to see each other when they do have the nights together!

AHH! Washing Machines!!!!! It is a good thing that it is your landlords and not yours, or you would have to be paying for it and not him (the upside of it,) but it is frustrating when it is also on someone elses schedule and you have to wait! Thank Heavens for good friends, I know that I had one time that I had to "borrow" Trisha's washing machine and it turned out to be such a fun thing in the end, she helped me fold, we talked, laughed and had lunch together and the kids got to play for a longer time with their friends. I also had Trisha at our house, because her machine was on the fritz and we just had so much fun, that it took all the stress away and then made it sad that we couldn't do the laundry together always(we did end up buying head phones for our phones and talking while we did laundry soon after though and it was not quite but almost as good as both of us being together!)

Well now, that my comment has turned into a novel, I will end with this conclusion!
You are an amazing person, you are kind, loving and a wonderful mother to Kira and Josh! Whenever you need me, just call my cell phone and I we can talk and talk and talk!
Hopefully when Sharon and her fam are here we can all get together and go out to eat, (somewhere healthy,) and laugh together like we did when we were kids!

I love you,
Sandi
