Piano Playing

There are many things I wanted to blog about or should blog about (Kira's birthday, trip to St George, the beautiful sunshine changing my thought) but today it will be about the piano.

Lately I have had many opportunities to play the piano for different events.  I was asked to accompany the Edgemont School Choir back in March for the Provo District choir festival.  It was a lot of fun. I haven't really accompanied children (the choir was 5th and 6th graders) aside from primary here and there.  On Easter Sunday I accompanied a couple in our ward who are just amazing singers (they are both part of the Vocal Faculty at BYU) they sang Amazing Grace.  It was a really fun arrangement to play.  A week later someone they knew passed away so they asked me to accompany them again at the funeral.   This last week was a very busy piano week for me.  I was asked to accompany a number for a special mother/daughter activity for Activities Days. I then played for the school choir, this time 3 numbers.   Then today I played a solo for Sacrament Meeting. I played "Ere You Left Your Room this Morning" it was a really pretty arrangement.

I love how much I've been asked to play the piano lately.  I love playing the piano. It is one of the talents I feel Heavenly Father has given me to bless the lives of others.  I think the first time I accompanied a number was when I was a Merry Miss in Primary. The girls sang "I Will Follow God's Plan" from there I think I was always asked in Young Women's to play.   In high school I would accompany some numbers for our A'capella choir.  I played nearly every week on my mission.  I served in a branch and in a ward where no one knew how to play the piano.

I love the piano, its what I loved to do when I had nothing else to do when I was a child.  I really love that Kira is the same way. Kira is moving through her first piano books really quickly.  Kira is a natural at the piano.

Today and this week I've felt so good with the compliments I've received

  • your touch is smooth
  • you make it seem so easy
  • I feel the Spirit so strongly when you play
  • you play like a concert pianist (this one shocked me, the Amazing Grace number was pretty impressive, big chords and such but still)
  • you are a natural
  • can't believe so much sound and power can come out of something so small
  • your playing makes me feel so peaceful
I hope I can discover so more talents or further develop some talents that can help me serve more.

Dude. That's a lot of piano.

I've never really heard you play either. 10 years and I'm still discovering new levels of Diana-awesomeness! How great to have a talent you can share with so many people.

That's awesome! The comments I get when I play are usually more like "It's nice that you're willing to try." Hahaha.
