Happy Birthday to Joshua!

My little boy is one year old today. It has gone by quite fast in comparison to Kira's first year. I think with the first you want to get them reaching their milestones but with the second you know eventually they'll do everything anyways so why not keep them young. Joshua was born at 11:45 am after a very short labor. I arrived at the hospital to be induced at 6:30 am (Grandpa and Grandma Allen were kind enough to drive down from Bountiful to be at our house at 6 am to take care of Kira for the day, Sandi drove up from St George to spend the couple of nights with Kira while we were at the hospital, I'm so grateful for the help of our family).

The nurses started the postosin a little after 8:00, received the epidural around 9:00 had contractions I couldn't feel and then at 11:40 maybe a little later started to push, 5 minutes later he was out. Then came the trauma, Joshua came out blue, so I got to hold him for a few seconds and then off he went to the NICU. His apgar score was 1 out of 10.

Joshua was having trouble breathing and he was dehydrated (my amniotic fluid level was quite low) they put him on oxygen and on an IV. Lou commented how sad it was when they had to draw blood and none of his veins worked because of his dehydration, eventually they drew blood from his head. I didn't get to see Joshua until about 6 that night, it was very hard to see him with his IV hooked up and seeing him struggle for breath. Louis and Grandpa Allen gave Joshua a blessing that night and finally my heart was calmed and I knew everything would be ok. We named Joshua about a day and a half after he was born, all the nurses were so excited once we named him, they said they were tired of calling him baby boy Allen. Joshua unfortunately also suffered from Jaundice and had to lay in they "tanning bed" for about a week. He had to lay in it all the time unless he was being fed or having his diaper changed.
This year has been great, it has been nice to see how Kira and Josh interact with each other, and it's been fun to watch Joshy grow into the cute little toddler that he is.

Today we are going on a hike with Jeff, Leann and Mark to celebrate Josh's birthday. For dinner tonight we are having a barbecue. Leann and I will attempt to make a car cake. We love birthdays in our family, we want to make it an extra special day for Josh. Today is also Leann's birthday. Joshua had the honor of being born on Leann's 50th birthday :)

I hope you guys have a great day with him! I was just wondering to myself yesterday how old he was since it seems like Kira is getting more into her own.

Oh, and you are way too cute being that pregnant. I hope no one ever posts a picture of my right before I headed to the hospital- sheesh.
