Outside my Comfort Zone

Today I had a little time between Joshy's morning nap and when I needed to start on lunch and the kids afternoon nap, since nothing was going on and it is such a beautiful day outside I thought I'd take the kids on a walk. I went over to my neighbor's Mona to see if she wanted to go with me but I guess Friday is early day for her daughter at school so she was on her way to pick her up and then go to SLC. Once we left Mona's I thought about how I said awhile back that I needed to start visiting the elderly sisters in our ward, I have a lot of free time and I know a lot of them don't have too many visitors during the day so what a perfect combination. There is a cute little lady in our ward, Sister Widdle, I know I've mentioned her before, she turned 99 this year, she is the one that shared a testimony last Fall that made me want to join the ward choir, and she is also the one that makes really good comments during my lessons. So i decided just to take the plung outside my comfort zone and go visit her. Kira was really excited, she loves Sister Widdle, since Kira loves all grandma looking people. Sister Widdle thankfully was at home and immediately invited us into her home. Kira and Josh were both really well behaved, I was a little nervous, because somtimes they get a little scared at houses they haven't been to. I really enjoyed talking to her about her family and what she likes to do during the day. I was so nervous to go but I am so glad I did, I think there is a lot to be learned from our elders and everyone enjoys company, Plus her house reminded me so much of my Grandma Field's house, the size of it, how clean it was and the furniture, it was like a trip down memory lane for me :)

Way to go, reaching outside your comfort zone and doing something so nice for someone else! I'm sure she loved your visit and was so thankful you and the kids came over. It's hard to imagine what life would be like as an elderly person, but as soon as I imagine how lonely it must be having so many friends and family that have died, so many healthy issues, being feeble, losing hearing and sight, it's so humbling. If something like a visit is what they need to brighten their day then I'm happy to do it.

Good job Diana. You are a great example to me. I struggle with getting anyone visited these days because we're so "busy" but I know I need to make the time to let people know I care. Thanks for sharing your experience! Love you!

Hi Diana, I was looking at Sharon's blog site and noticed your blog site. I thought I would take a peak. It is fun to see your kids. I really liked this story about leaving your comfort zone. You have so much to offer. I am glad you decided to go and find someone to visit. Your kids are just so cute!
