Hiking in the Snow

Saturday is always a fun day for us, we try to do something inbetween naps. We decided for this Saturday we would go out to lunch and then go up American Fork Canyon and take a little hike. Since we were going to American Fork, I thought it would be fun to eat in American Fork. I remember both Jill and Hannah mentioning on their blogs a place that had really good fries. I couldn't remember the name except that it had initials and I had no idea in American Fork where it was at. Lou thought I was pretty crazy to try and find a restaurant I didn't know the name of or where it was at, but I wanted to try some place new. I knew that I would recognize the name if I saw it so I wasn't too worried. We found it, JCW's. It was very crowded which we took as a good sign. JCW's did not disappoint, we all loved the food, Joshy ate almost a 1/3rd of my hamburger. On full tummies we thought it was a perfect time to hike. We drove up to Tibben's Fork Reservoir. We hiked just a little paved trail, but it was so much fun. Josh was in the stroller but Kira walked the entire time. She loved walking on the snow on the side of the path, she even would push Josh in his stroller some of the time. My only regret for the afternoon was that I forgot to take our camera.
Saturday was also a great day for sports fans in Utah. BYU won the Mountain West Conference title, and the Jazz improved their record to 9-1. We didn't watch the BYU game till about 11 at night, we watched the replay on KBYU. We liked it, no commercials or timeouts to deal with, without the expense of a DVR.
Little Kira was sick all weekend, so we didn't take her to church on Sunday. I nevertheless had a busy Sunday. We visit taught our two sisters. I really have learned to love visiting teaching. I often feel that I get more out of the visits than the sisters we teach. One of the sisters I visit teach has had a really rough time the last year or so, yet she is always so cheerfull and optimistic. I learn so much from her attitude. I could not even begin to imagine how I would be if I had to deal with the trials that she has, yet she has complete faith that the Lord will provide and everything will work out for the good. I love my companion, Abby. I have been really lucky in this ward to have the best visiting teaching companions. After visiting teaching we had choir. I love singing in the ward choir. We are practicing for our Christmas program. We do our Christmas program the 2nd Sunday in December. WE always do it the second week, because if we do it any later it seems like most people have gone home for Christmas already. I'm really excited about the program, I love all the songs that we are singing. I'm playing the piano for one of the songs, "Oh Holy Night" so that the pianist can play the organ. I haven't accompanied a choir in many years. It gave me chills to do it yesterday. I was on a high the rest of the day. I am also singing in a double quartet with 3 other girls in our ward. We are singing "What Child is This?" arranged by Sally DeFord. My sister Sharon, introduced me to it last year, and I immediately fell in love with the song. My mother-in-law and sister-in-laws and I sang it at Joshua's blessing last year. I'm so grateful that my family installed in me the love of music. Music has been such a blessing in my life. I love that I can sit down and play the piano, to relax, or get inspired. I love that I can sing to the kids and in church. My parents made us start taking music lessons when we were 5. I started out on the violin because my dad and my sister Sharon play the violin. I soon realized it was not for me. I was always playing at the piano instead. Finally when I was 7, I asked my mom if I could take piano lessons instead. When my Mom said yes, I thought I had died and gone to Heaven, I was so happy. I had a teacher for a few years who wasn't the greatest, but it didn't stop me from loving the piano. When I was in fifth grade I started a new teacher, Janis Simper. She was absolutely wonderful, she was kind and sweet and had such a knack for teaching. I loved going to her little house every week. In the 10th grade she told me she probably couldn't teach me anymore because I had reached a level that was hard for her to teach. I then started taking lessons from Dr. Lee. I loved Dr. Lee has a teacher too. He was our choir and madgrial teacher at school. Dr. Lee was very knowledgeable in music. He was a concert pianist before he got in a car accident injured his hand and couldn't play at that level anymore, although he was still an amazing piananist.
We're so excited for this week, I love Thanksgiving. It is so much fun to have a day devoted to gratitude and great food!

Great weekend! How much snow was up AF Canyon? Jeremy bought Kaitlin snow shoes last week and he's dying to take her, but we don't think there's enough snow.

JCW's is so yummy! I don't eat there nearly enough. If you like cookie dough flavored things you should try a cookie dough shake next time you make it up this way. They're the best--and I'm not a huge cooke dough fan!

That's amazing that you've taken music lessons since you were five! I really wish I played an instrument. We just bought a really nice, full sized keyboard, and I want to find a piano teacher for next year. Jeremy plays the piano, though it's been years since he's really played, and it's been so cool to hear him teaching himslef new pieces to play. Kaitlin adores the "pinano" and I can't wait until she's old enough to learn. It is definistely something that will be part of her life.

I love Christmas music, too. I am definitely going to check out that Sally DeFord arrangement. I used to accompany choirs and really enjoyed that.

My boys were excited about taking piano until the drudgery of practice took over! It's definitely hard to teach your own children, but I keep at it because I want them to have the ability to play music for their own enjoyment and uplifting someday.

Amy there isn't too much snow yet, but with the little that there is, Kira was able to have a lot of fun, I bet Kaitlin would just love it.
